Are you a friend of nature? Then you are right here. In and around Berlin you will find lots of green areas. Much of it is even specially protected, so be considerate! Otherwise it will be expensive (Fines catalog). Here you can find my posts broken down by properties.

Nature reserves

These areas require special protection. There are many reasons for this - from rarity to special beauty to the restoration of habitats and communities (BNatSchG §23). And no, you must not put yourself or your partner under nature protection, even if you have the same reasons. 🙂

In nature reserves you have to - if you are allowed to enter them - stay on the marked trails, even as a pedestrian! Of course, any destruction and pollution is prohibited, but also any kind of maintenance.

Protected landscape areas

In addition to the regeneration of nature, it is also about preserving the importance of the landscape, for example for recovery and tourism. The protected areas are therefore mostly larger than pure nature reserves. Sometimes they overlap. And there are also other titles such as biosphere reserve, national park and natural monument. All made for you to drive into the countryside and get away from city stress.

Forests

Can't see the forest for the trees? That should happen. But this won't happen to you here, because there are a lot of trees and forests to discover in Berlin. 440,000 road trees yet.

The forest is good for you. Its air is much less dusty and healthier (terpenes). And a coniferous forest smells so great too. In combination with twittering birds, the forest has a calming effect on us, reduces stress and has been shown to strengthen the immune system. Do the same to the Japanese and take a “Shinrin-yoku” - a forest bath.

Waters

"Berlin was built from a barge" - that is an old saying, because Berlin's origin is on a Spree island. Havel, Spree and Dahme and their canals still determine Berlin's cityscape and traffic. And then there are a lot of lakes, ponds, wallows and rivers. A trip to the water is first for relaxation and experience, but of course you can fishing, boating and bathing too.

Parks

Parking is prohibited. Movement wanted. Stroll through Berlin's 5500 hectares of green spaces. Everyone will find their favorite fluffy place there. Or running track. Or skating rink. Or castle park. And don't forget: Dogs must be kept on a lead.

Berlin lists

I have created a few lists for you, but none of them claim to be complete.

List of protected areas

Here is the list of all nature reserves and landscape conservation areas in Berlin (as of June 27, 2020). You can sort the list by column or filter by city district or type (search), but you can also limit the number of rows.
